“The most important things to remember about back story are that (a) everyone has a history and (b) most of it isn’t very interesting.”
– Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft
As Mr. King so eloquently wrote, back story often isn’t very interesting. So, before we get to the basic biographical information, here’s three interesting facts about my past.
I once circumnavigated the globe via ship (Vancouver to Ft. Lauderdale) and attended a speech by Fidel Castro along the way. He threw us a party in a mansion he owned afterwards…it was strange.
I wrote a script for a Star Wars attraction that starred Anthony Daniels as C-3PO. The piece was shot despite the exhibit never opening.
I once broke into an office and operated the actual Swedish Chef. Yes, the Muppet; the real one not a replica. This was before Disney owned the Muppets so I’m hoping I won’t get into trouble by admitting this.
I was born and raised in Southern California where I engrossed myself in a hefty helping of fiction. Everything from Dixon to Tolkien, Rodenberry to Whedon, or Moore to O’Neil…if it had a story I wanted to experience it.
I attended Chapman University where I earned a B.F.A. in Film/TV Writing and Directing. After working for various film and television production companies, including the Jim Henson Company, I landed at PlainJoe Studios. Currently, I’m the Director of Environmental Design and oversee story direction for a diverse range of projects.
In addition to having overseen more than fifty environmental design projects, ranging from office spaces to fully immersive children’s areas, I also served as the Creative Director for the Las Vegas Mob Experience. This attraction was housed at the historic Tropicana and was a themed, interactive walk through of the history of the mob in Las Vegas.
I currently live in Corona, CA with my wife where I spend most of my free time either creating fiction or consuming it. This includes a hefty addiction to video games, especially anything created by Blizzard Entertainment.
